The United Brethren In Christ denomination is a conservative evangelical church. Our Confession of Faith has been unchanged since its adoption in 1815. The following are a few of the foundational beliefs that we hold to at the Monticello United Brethren in Christ church. God. There is only one God. At the same time, He is a three-in-one, or triune God---The Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. God has always been and has no end. God is the Creator of all things, and shows mankind His love and hope through the Bible. Jesus Christ. Though fully God Jesus became a man, born of a virgin, lived a perfectly sinless life, died on the cross, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. Christ alone offers forgiveness and desires to have a personal relationship with all who believe. The Bible. The Bible is the Word of God. God shows us His plan for mankind to be in a right standing with Him through the Bible. Every word is inspired by God and provides for mankind the instruction to live a life for Him. Sin. Mankind is born with the desire to do things his own way. The Bible calls this desire sin and says that none of mankind is without sin. Sin separates mankind from God, so God sent His Son Jesus Christ to take away our sins through the giving of His own life. Salvation. Because of mankind’s sin, we needed a Savior. Jesus Christ gave up His rights and died a cruel death on a cross was buried and came alive again three days later so that mankind could be forgiven. Jesus offers forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven to anyone who believes in Him. Christian Ordinances. We hold that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Savior should be baptized and participate in communion (the Lord’s Supper). |
